Grants

Funding Cycles and Application Deadlines

Funding for projects happens through two separate processes:

a) collaborative process
b) general grant applications.

Funding generally occurs through a collaborative processes.  In the collaborative process, participating agencies are asked by MSHF staff to submit applications. The nature of the project will determine the timing of the funding.

General grant applications are considered on a semi-annual basis.  Applicants who wish to be considered for the Spring funding cycle must submit their completed applications no later than February 28th to be eligible.  Applicants who wish to be considered for the Fall funding cycle must submit their completed applications by July 31st.

Grant application packets are reviewed and a preliminary decision being made within 90 days. Applications accepted for further consideration of funding must complete the Foundation's due diligence process. The Foundation strives to make a final funding decision within 6 months of receiving the initial application packet.

Selected Fields and Priority Funding

The Mat-Su Health Foundation’s approach is to select broad fields of health concern for priority funding during a particular funding cycle. Within these broad fields of concern, the Board has further identified specific funding objectives and performance goals upon which the Foundation will concentrate. Achievement of set goals within the structure of the funding objectives is the groundwork for steady improvement in the quality of life and community health available to each resident of the Mat-Su Borough.

Collaborative Approach to Achieving Targeted Objectives

The Foundation has adopted a collaborative approach to solving community health problems. Where possible the Foundation will work jointly with agencies and other funding sources as the preferred method for achieving targeted improvements. The Foundation seeks to partner with qualified programs and selected agencies offering well-crafted, practical, and effective solutions for the Board’s specific regional health issues of concern. The Foundation hopes to achieve its established performance goals during each funding cycle by choosing our partners with care.

General Health Based Grants

We anticipate that during a given funding cycle, urgent needs and unanticipated opportunities will arise. The Foundation will review qualified grant applications seeking non-targeted health based grants on a semi-annual basis. These applications will be taken through the Foundation’s web site and processed. Please review the "How to Apply" process. The Frequently Asked Questions section is likely to contain answers to questions you may have.

Scholarships

The Foundation annually offers scholarships for Mat-Su Borough residents which are established to assist those seeking careers in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, counseling, and other health related fields. The Foundation’s objective is to assist qualified candidates obtain the education and skills necessary to return to the Mat-Su Borough and work in a health related field.
